Happening tonight and still time for you to get in on the event

Our very own Kiersten “ChefK” will be speaking tonight!

‘Sustainability Expo and Dinner’ with gourmet menu
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College will host its third annual “Sustainability Expo and Dinner” beginning with the expo at 4 p.m. and gourmet dinner featuring locally grown food paired with Kansas wines at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in the Regnier Center.

Area farmers will have booths to display information about their farms from 4-6 p.m. in the Regnier Center Atrium.
Some of the vendors will have product to taste. All vendors will be available to talk and discuss the field-to-fork process.  Most of the discussion will be about the importance of communities reverting back to sustaining their communities with local products. This process, in return, will help erase the effects of the community’s carbon footprint.

Following the expo, Executive Chef Tim Johnson will prepare a five-course dinner paired with wine provided by Somerset Ridge Vineyard & Winery, Paola, in the Capitol Federal Conference Center.
Menu
Roulade of Pencil Green Asparagus with Goat Cheese Puree
Sweet Corn Terrine with Duck Confit and Smoked Tomato Au Jus
Basil Wrapped Marinated Cucumbers with Roasted Beet Oil and Candied Pecans
Grilled Pork Rib Chop with an Apple Cider Reduction and a Roasted Mini Pumpkin Stuffed with Roasted Root Vegetables
Assorted Rustic Bread from Meadowlark Acres with Caramel-Pecan Apple Butter

The event is hosted by JCCC’s Foundation and Dining Services. Cost is $65 per person with $20 of the ticket price receipted as a charitable contribution to the JCCC Student Environmental Alliance. 1. I am so glad I don’t eat all that processed food anymore. Having my own garden and feeding my family from it has been very healthy for us.
