Bistro kids, SMDS & January means Honey Month!

Turns out, Rosh Hashana isn’t the only sweet new year. January is HONEY MONTH, and the Bistro Kids chefs are preparing healthy and delicious recipes for RJA children. But we won’t use just any honey! The honey butter, honey yogurt granola, honey chicken and honey roasted pears your children feast on this month are made by local bees!

Did you know that honey is 25% sweeter than table sugar? Use it in your cooking, and you’ll get the sweet taste you enjoy without all the sugar!

Try using honey in cookie recipes like this one from Bistro Kids:

Honey Granola Cookies
(Makes 2 ½ to 3 Dozen Cookies)

•  ½ cup (1 stick) butter, softened
• 2/3 cup honey
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp. vanilla extract
• 2 2/3 cups granola
• 1 ½ cups 50/50 flour
(half all-purpose, half whole wheat)
• ½ tsp. baking powder
• ½ tsp. salt

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Cream butter, honey, egg and vanilla together in a large bowl.
3. Stir together granola, flour, baking powder and salt in a second bowl, then add to the bowl with the honey mixture and mix well.
4. Drop cookie dough by rounded Tbsp. onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
5. Flatten down slightly with wet fingers or the back of a fork, then bake for 20 minutes.
6. Cool on a rack and serve.
